Soils, Geodiversity and Soils Educational Site Networks

Soil science is poorly recognised by existing designated sites, and can be side-lined in environmental education. This important meeting explores whether linking soils with geodiversity conservation efforts could help to develop networks of educational soil science sites, to act as a framework for understanding the role of soils in earth sciences and wider society. Topics will include

  • the place of soils in geodiversity
  • identifying soils sites for educational purposes
  • the role of local level designations in protecting and promoting soil sites

An afternoon field trip will explore how sites could be interpreted and used. There will be no conference fee, as the meeting is supported by the British Society of Soil Science. Lunch will be provided at a cost of £10 per head.  The meeting will be followed by the SWESDG AGM.

To register your interest in attending this meeting if you are not on the SWESDG mailing list, please email rparkinson@plymouth.ac.uk.  Full details of the finalised programme will be published here towards the end of February, and emailed to group members as usual.
