European Journal of Soil Science

Aims and Scope

European Journal of Soil ScienceOur understanding of soil continues to advance. Better instruments and new techniques allow us to penetrate its structure and monitor its behaviour. Developments in statistical theory backed by sound programming and more powerful computers are leading to more effective survey and spatial prediction. Long-term experiments continue to provide new insight into the soil's response to management. The knowledge and understanding gained are essential for managing land without its deteriorating, and for protecting and restoring it. They should also underlie sound policies in land use regionally and nationally.

The European Journal of Soil Science, as one of the premier journals in the field, fosters that understanding by publishing the latest significant findings of research, the description of new techniques, and up-to-date authoritative and critical reviews over the whole field of soil science and its applications. European Journal of Soil Science welcomes contributions from all countries, and its editorial board has members in four continents.

The European Journal of Soil Science reports:

  • the latest significant results of research in all aspects of soil science,
  • describes new techniques,
  • provides up-to-date critical reviews,
  • welcomes thematic issues, and
  • publishes advanced educational papers.

Papers should:

  • be good science,
  • be new or novel,
  • improve our understanding,
  • interest an international audience.

Contributions are invited from all countries. The ‘European’ in the title of the Journal signifies that it is published on behalf of the societies of soil science in Europe and implies no discrimination against papers originating outside Europe. There are no page charges. The fields covered range across the following, but little is in fact excluded from consideration:

  • biology, biochemistry and organic substances
  • chemistry, physics and spatial studies
  • hydrology and structure
  • pedology and soil processes
  • soil functions and interactions
  • modelling and technique
